3 Ways to Minimize Stubborn Face Fat
Dealing with stubborn face fat
If you’ve recently noticed the addition of a few extra pounds, but they’re all in your face, and have been trying desperately to lose it you’re in luck. There are ways to reduce face fat without going under the knife.
Before you can figure out how to lose this weight you have to know what causes it.
“Generally speaking, when we gain or lose weight, we are not increasing or decreasing the number of fat cells, call adipocytes,” according to Stephen S. Park, M.D., F.A.C.S., president of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He goes on to say, “Instead, the cells themselves are enlarging or shrinking. That is why some people will report always having a problem area, regardless of weight. They have more fat cells in that area than other people do.”
Additional, other characteristics such as bone structure and the size of your saliva glands, can also affect the way that your face looks. While there is little to nothing you can do to change your genetics or reduce fat in certain areas, you can help thin your face with the following methods.
- Consider and Identify Food Allergies
Individuals who have food allergies but are unaware of them can find themselves with a fuller face than they might like. Gluten sensitivity and irritable bowel syndrome are two of the most common complaints of individuals with fuller faces. Bloating is also a common side-effect that signifies that something’s not quite right with your digestive system.
- Combat Water Retention
According to medical weight-loss expert Sue Decotiis, M.D., “Excess alcohol, sugar, and salt intake are all linked back to fuller faces.” So, when your diet is out of sorts, it causes your body tissues to hold onto water. When you eliminate or reduce the consumption of these foods, and increase your water intake, you can see a reduction in face fullness.
- Raging Hormones
During PMS, your body goes through a spike in progesterone, which contributes to the symptoms of PMS including facial swelling, according to Decotiis. If you go through periods of hot flashes or have irregular periods, this may be a sign you’re entering menopause. Women as young as their mid-thirties can experience early onset menopause.
